Venice Youth Council
The purpose of the Venice Youth Council (VYC) is to unite boys and girls of our Japanese Community Center through organized sports activities to promote the spirit of good sportsmanship and development of team oriented interpersonal skills and relationships. VYC's philosophy has never been about winning but about friendly competition, sportsmanship, promoting parent involvement and learning about the Japanese culture and heritage, while developing the youth into responsible young adults. It is our philosophy that winning at all costs should not overshadow these principles.

VJCC/VYC Requirements to Coach a VYC Team
1. Live Scan
To comply with AB 506, the VJCC requires all volunteers to have a Live Scan Background check. Live scans can also be done at an outside 3rd party location. Volunteers will need to download and complete the Venice Japanese Community Center “Request for Live Scan Service” form and BRING IT TO THE LIVE SCAN LOCATION. This form contains private information that the VJCC does not need to know. You will also need to bring your valid California ID. VJCC Request for Live Scan Service form is available below.
2. Read the VJCC's Child Abuse Prevention and Reporting Guidelines
Volunteers need to read the VJCC Child Abuse Prevention and Reporting Guidelines and sign and submit to the VJCC office, page 5 of the document. VJCC Child Abuse Prevention and Reporting Guidelines and signature page 5 is available below.
3. Complete the attached VJCC Volunteer Information sheet
This completed document also needs to be submitted to the VJCC office. VJCC Volunteer Information form is available below.
4. Undergo abuse and neglect training
All volunteers will need to get the abuse and neglect prevention training online at: https://mandatedreporterca.com/training/volunteers. Once completed, print out the completion certificate and submitted to the VJCC office. This mandatory training is about 2 hours long but can be completed in parts and not all at once.
5. Concussion and Head Injury Information and Training
To comply with AB 379, here is a link to the concussion training: https://www.cdc.gov/headsup/youthsports/training/index.html
Training course takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. Coaches should download and print their certificate at the completion of the course and submit it to the VJCC office.
6. Sudden Cardiac Arrest Information and Training
To comply with AB 379, here is a link to the sudden cardiac arrest training: https://epsavealife.org/sca-prevention-training/
Training course takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. Coaches should download and print their certificate at the completion of the course and submit it to the VJCC office.
7. Turn in the following required paperwork to the VJCC OFFICE
a. The signed page 5 of the VJCC Child Abuse Prevention and Reporting Guidelines. (Item #2 above)
b. The completed VJCC Volunteer Information Sheet (Items #3 above)
c. A copy of the certificate indicating completion of the Abuse and Neglect prevention training. (Item #4 above).
d. A copy of the certificate of completion for the Concussion and Head Injury training. (Item #5 above)
e. A copy of the certificate of completion for the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training. ( Item #6 above)
These documents should be turned in all at the same time in an envelope marked "confidential" and place into the VJCC mailbox next to the VJCC Office. Do not email copies of the documents.
The submitted documents will be kept on file to prove VJCC’s compliance of AB 506 and AB 379.
8. Basic First Aid and CPR/AED Certification
Coaches are required to complete a basic first aid class every other year. Coaches must submit certification of completion or copy of business card or professional license if in the medical profession.

2020 VYC T-Shirt Design Contest
VYC teams can submit designs for the 2020 VYC T-Shirt Design Contest. The deadline to submit designs is March 4, 2020. The team with the winning design will receive $300 that will be applied to league or basketball tournament fees. The winning design will be selected by vote of the VYC Board and VYC parent reps at the March 2020 VYC Parent Rep Meeting. For details click here to see flyer.
2020 Photo Day and Bao Sale
The 2020 Photo Day and Bao Sale will be held on Sunday, February 23rd at VJCC. Forms and team envelopes were distributed at the January VYC Parent Rep Meeting. Photo schedule and extra forms will be available at the February VYC Parent Rep Meeting.

VJCC Presents: Movie Night
VJCC is presenting Movie Night on Friday, October 29, 2019. VJCC Members, family, and friends are welcome! This event will be at the Venice Japanese Community Center, 12448 Braddock Drive, LA, 90066. The movie will be Star Wars: A New Hope and will start at 7:00 pm, but before the movie, Food Trucks will be available. Beer and wine will be on sale for adults.

1st Annual VYC Ice Skating FUN-raiser!

More than 150 VYC members and friends took to the ice at the Toyota Sports Center on Saturday, February 27th to help raise money for the VYC gym fund. This fund pays the gym rental fees for VYC teams’ practices throughout the year. Raising these funds helps VYC keep its membership fees low.
It was great seeing VYC members of all ages take to the ice to some great Top 40 tunes. The ice was clean and smooth, as they ran the Zamboni over it right before our session started. For some, this was their first time ice-skating. Some skaters held hands and skated slowly, while others zipped around the ice! Many parents enjoyed sipping coffee and hot chocolate while watching the skaters from the sidelines. After a few trips around the ice, some folks of legal age, retired to the bar upstairs and continued the fun!
The night provided great exercise and a lot of fun for everyone. Many of our skaters closed down the rink at 10pm! Thank you to the 21 teams who participated and/or made donations to the gym fund. Thank you to the VYC commissioners (Allison, Donna, and Celeste) who helped organize the event and to (Pat and Paige) who helped sell tickets to public. We hope to see you on the ice when this annual VYC fun-raiser returns next year!!
